Africa in focus next year

This year the Book Fair has offered more than 2,700 different events, with more than 2,100 participants during the four days.

- We are so pleased that we have taken part in the 25th Book Fair in Göteborg. It has been a great opportunity for us to highlight Spain's creative and publishing strengths. Spanish publishing and literature have always been among the most important in the world, and remain so today. What has impressed me the most about the Book Fair is its liveliness and the interest shown by the public, says Rogelio Blanco Martínez, General Director for Books, Libraries and Archives at the Spanish Ministry of Culture, who hopes that the Spanish involvement at the Book Fair will lead to more translation of Spanish literature into Swedish, and vice versa.

Next year Göteborg Book Fair will focus on Africa and African literature.

- Africa at the 2010 Göteborg Book Fair will be the biggest event in Scandinavia in several decades to focus on the continent's exceptionally rich literature and culture. We want Africa to be seen all over Göteborg in September 2010, said Carin Norberg, Director of the Nordic Africa Institute, Göteborg Book Fair's partner for next year's theme.
